Rolance of Monale (manga) and Lawrence Monale (gekijouban) are differing versions of a singular character that appears in the Ouran High School Host Club manga and Gekijouban Ouran High School Host Club.

Manga Version[]

The Kingdom of Monale is a fictional country in Europe with a prosperous mining industry. Monale is classified as wealthy, but the income gap is wide. The king and queen are deceased due to a "freak accident" three years prior, leaving their 21-year-old son, Prince Rolance, as ruler. Rolance of Monale is a practical man who lives humbly and actively speaks with the citizens of Monale, his goal being to keep Monale prosperous and peaceful, despite concerns. Upon learning more about Rolance's troubles, Kyoya Ootori says there is "no way" Rolance and Michelle live in the extravagance Michelle claims.

Michelle Erica Monale (aka Princess Michelle) is the younger sister of Rolance and since their parents died, the only person to whom Michelle feels close. Unfortunately, as ruler of Monale, Rolance is always busy and he is often forced to leave Michelle alone in the palace, which results in Michelle feeling that he's pushing her away. Michelle wants him to realize that she can be helpful so that she can spend more time with him. When Rolance comes to Ouran Academy to see how she is faring, he tells her that part of the reason he works so hard is so that she can be happy and safe.

Rolance eventually helps the Host Club win the Ouran Battle to gain use of the Central Salon during the annual Ouran Fair. Michelle makes amends with the students and the siblings come to understand one another better.

Gekijouban Version[]

Lawrence Monale is the young President of Monale Inc. following the death of his parents in a freak accident. Because Monale Inc. is financially unstable, Lawrence is always stressed, busy and unable to spend quality time with his younger sister, Michelle Erica Monale.

When Lawrence pays a surprise visit to Michelle at Ouran Academy, Kyoya Ootori arranges a business meeting with the young executive to outline a plan for Monale Inc.'s finances, thus earning a new ally for The Ootori Group. In exchange for his assistance, Lawrence accompanies the club to the Ouran Battle, winning them the treasure hunt for "the Monale family treasure," in which the prize is the rights to the coveted Central Salon for the annual Ouran Fair. Lawrence apologizes to Michelle for thinking that he only needed to provide for her financially, now realizing that his emotional support is just as important. He promises to be there for her from now on.
